BPL Realities: The Invisible Lives on the Margins

At The Probe, our "BPL Realities" campaign unveils the stark, unvarnished tales of India’s most overlooked souls. The "Below Poverty Line" idea is fuzzy—old and unclear—often excluding the true BPL families. These are the homeless, lacking papers to tap into aid programs; bonded labourers, clans bound to brutal labour for months or years to settle debts of ₹5,000-20,000; and many more whose battles for food, clean water, health, and schooling stay hidden. We see them as India’s real BPL—citizens whose grit and spirit endure despite missing basic rights or the systems meant to lift them. Mainstream tales skip them; official tallies wipe them out. Yet, their lives count and need a voice. At The Probe, we don’t just do stories—we bring about impact. Many of our stories have resulted in real-world impact.
