The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 is underway today. In response to concerns about low voter turnout in earlier phases, the Election Commission of India has called on voters to show up in larger numbers at polling stations and exercise their right to vote with responsibility and pride.

So far, the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 have seen a voter turnout of approximately 66.95%, with around 451 million people having cast their votes during the first four phases. Today, polling for Phase 5 is being conducted in 49 Parliamentary Constituencies across 8 States and Union Territories. Voting began at 7 AM and will conclude at 6 PM.

In Maharashtra, 13 out of its 48 constituencies are voting today, marking the end of the Lok Sabha polls in the state. This phase also signifies the final phase of voting for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with one of its five constituencies participating. Additionally, the Union Territory of Ladakh is voting in this phase.

Elections 2024 Phase 5 Facts 

In this phase, voters in eight States and Union Territories—Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal—are heading to the polls. This phase includes major cities like Mumbai, Thane, and Lucknow, which have historically experienced low urban voter turnout.

Key candidates in this phase include Union Ministers Piyush Goyal (Mumbai North), Smriti Irani (Amethi), and Rajnath Singh (Lucknow). From the opposition, Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Raebareli, defending his mother Sonia Gandhi's stronghold. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is running in Baramulla, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya is contesting from Saran, and Shiv Sena-UBT leader Arvind Sawant is running in Mumbai South.

In Odisha, 35 Assembly Constituencies are also voting for seats in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Around 9.47 lakh polling officials are stationed to accommodate over 8.95 crore eligible voters across 94,732 polling stations. These voters include 4.69 crore men, 4.26 crore women, and 5,409 third-gender electors. Additionally, there are over 7.81 lakh registered voters aged 85 and above, 24,792 voters over 100 years old, and 7.03 lakh PwD voters who have the option to vote from home.
